The Project

Viking music with
Nordic authenticity

Danheim is a Nordic folk and Viking-inspired music project from Copenhagen, Denmark. It is the work of Danish producer Reidar Schæfer Olsen, a composer with roots in electronic and ambient music who turned his craft toward the Viking age in 2016.

The music is built on ideas and stories from the darker side of the Viking period: Nordic mythology, old Danish folklore, and a vivid imagination. What it chases above all is a certain Nordic authenticity of mood. Cold, vast, and ancient.

Danheim has passed 1.5 billion streams across digital platforms and 600,000 subscribers on YouTube. His music has sounded through the final season of Vikings, the spinoff Vikings: Valhalla, and Assassin's Creed Valhalla.

The Man Behind the Music

Reidar Schæfer Olsen

Born in 1985 in Brøndby, Denmark, singer-songwriter Reidar Schæfer Olsen turned fully to music in the early 2000s and has been composing almost without pause ever since. Alongside the music he built FolkRealms, the Viking and pagan community where he shares news, lore and new music before anywhere else.

With songwriting running through his veins from an early age, his Viking-inspired music and dark melodies have broadened the Nordic folk genre and inspired millions of listeners around the world, carrying them back in time on a blend of imagination and creativity.

“A deep connection to his Danish roots and heritage fueled his interest in the Nordic folk and Viking genre, prompting the creation of Danheim.”
